Separate input and output rates change the economics of built-in AI steps, without establishing a saving for every workflow.

August 25, 2026: the Make AI Provider rate change took effect.

Make changed token billing for its AI Provider’s Small, Medium and Large tiers on August 25. Input and output now use separate credit rates. For the Medium tier, the published rates are 18,080 input tokens or 2,260 output tokens per credit. This change does not apply to apps using your own API key. Official pricing-change explanation

Consider an illustrative extraction step with 2,000 input tokens and 100 output tokens. Its token component is approximately 0.155 credits under those rates, compared with 0.6 under the earlier combined rate. That calculation covers the stated token component, not the complete scenario bill.

For freelancers processing forms or documents, the next step is to inspect actual input and output volumes. Long generated responses can change the result. Make’s credits documentation also distinguishes operation charges and provider-connection arrangements. Official credits guide

Limits and unverified details

The Medium example assumes identical token usage and compares only token charges: 2000 ÷ 18080 + 100 ÷ 2260 ≈ 0.155 credits; the previous calculation is 2100 ÷ 3500 = 0.6. Actual deduction, rounding and other modules are unverified. This does not establish a 74% reduction in the scenario bill or a currency discount.
