AWS Startup Credits Can Offset Eligible Bills—They Are Not Cash or a Spending Cap
Trend analysis / Savings and income conditions
Self-funded founders should check their tier, eligible services and what happens when credits run out.

AWS’s current Activate page distinguishes a self-funded Founders path from the provider-backed Portfolio path. Founders starts with $1,000 in credits, with selected participants potentially receiving more. The higher Portfolio offer requires an Activate Provider organization ID. For a founder building a small software product, credits can offset eligible infrastructure charges after approval. Start with the architecture you actually need and estimate its normal monthly bill. Do not redesign the product simply to consume a promotional balance.
AWS’s credit terms say credits are not cash, expire on the specified date and do not cover every charge. Usage beyond the available balance is billed; account activation and redemption require a valid credit card. Source: https://aws.amazon.com/awscredits/
Check coverage for each service before deployment, and set your own monitoring and shutdown procedure. A credit balance is not proof that spending stops automatically.

The brief lists pre-Series B, a company established within ten years, a paid-tier account and new or higher credit eligibility; Portfolio needs a genuine Provider organization ID. Award amount, covered services, expiry and the complete region list were not verified for an account. Excess usage, excluded charges and taxes may remain payable; credits are not an automatic spending cap.
